Happy Endings
Okay, so I've been reading a book of mine that I haven't gotten to reading until recently and I find it very endearing to me. This book is the Sandman's Companion, think of it like a synapsis of that incredible series. Isn't often that I'd praise something exultantly but this, this is not just any other "comic" or graphic novel that I leisure myself with --no-- this book, is a creed.
Now, as I read the synapsis of the first book (which I havent gotten around to buying cuz of no money) there was that one line that really hit me, in a way; "All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories -- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death." I was like, wow cuz for me, it all made sense. In the most concrete examples, as I write my own stories I wanted them to go and on but later to realize that one day, these characters will have to end. Same with life, I guess. You are given your happy moments yet for how long, really? Because in the end, there will only be your inevitable end.
Sometimes I wish everyone would live in their happyily-ever-afters. Where Prince Charming would come; They end up with their pot of gold; The Big Bad Wolf gets lost; or when they are reunited with loved ones. But that only happens to a selected few. Most don't even get a happy ending. their lives a tragedy. I guess every person weaves a different thread or walks a different path and some, entitled with good fortunes seem to want to make it last forever yet the fact is, nothing ever does. The harsh reality is, tragedy and comedy come as pairs in everything and try as we might to avoid tragedy, it will find us as we trek our lives but just the same, comedy will find us also.
It is all just a matter of time.
